Tread, riser and nosing: a continuous step with no joints
Microcement wraps every part of the step — the tread you walk on, the riser at the front and the nosing edge — as one single continuous piece. With no joints, no nosing strips and no exposed aluminium trims, the result is a sculptural staircase of great visual lightness.

The vertical front of each step (the riser) is coated in the same finish, so the tread and riser read as one single visual piece.

Are microcement stairs slippery?
No. Microcement stairs are sealed with a non-slip topcoat made for trafficked areas — an anti-slip additive in the sealer, over a smooth surface — which gives a firm, secure footing on every tread. The surface is far safer underfoot than polished marble or glazed tiles, both indoors and outside, even when the steps are wet.
Are microcement stairs safe for children and the elderly?
Yes. With a non-slip sealer on the treads and by removing the joints, loose edges and metal nosing strips you can trip on, a microcement staircase is noticeably safer than tiled or marble steps. The continuous, smooth, non-slip-sealed surface reduces the risk of slips for children and older family members alike.
Can you put microcement over an existing staircase?
Yes. We apply microcement straight over your existing marble, terrazzo, tiled, timber or metal staircase using the right primer, with no rip-out and no rubble. The steps just need to be sound and firmly fixed, so the refurbishment stays clean and is usually finished in a few days.
Can you microcement wooden or metal stairs?
Yes. On stabilised timber stairs and on metal or steel staircases we use specific primers — anti-corrosion on metal — that guarantee the overlay bonds securely. Microcement adapts to almost any existing staircase, wrapping the treads, risers and edges in one seamless, monolithic finish with no exposed trims.
Do microcement stairs withstand heavy foot traffic?
Yes. Microcement, sealed with high-resistance resins, stands up to the daily footfall, knocks and wear of a busy staircase. For very high-traffic or outdoor stairs we use an epoxy-based system for even greater durability, so the finish stays hard-wearing and good-looking for years.
How much does a microcement staircase cost per m²?
Standard interior microcement stairs start from €65/m²; staircases needing structural reinforcement start from €75/m², and exterior or high-traffic stairs from €85/m². How long does it take to microcement a staircase?

What's the difference between microcement stairs and polished concrete stairs?
Microcement stairs are a thin 2–3 mm overlay applied over your existing staircase — light, seamless and fitted in a few days with no rip-out. Polished concrete stairs are cast or ground solid concrete: far heavier, thicker and a much bigger structural job. We specialise in microcement overlays.
